Ensure enough physical therapy!
Every year about 3 million people go to the physiotherapist. In short, it can be stated that physical therapy is limited reimbursed from the basic insurance. A good supplementary insurance, in which sufficient physiotherapy treatments are included, is therefore recommended!
An appropriate supplementary Physiotherapy insurance within the statutory Basic Insurance.
In the case of physiotherapy cover in basic insurance, a distinction is made between young people up to the age of 18 and adults.
Adults
Physical therapy is reimbursed in a limited way from the basic insurance. In certain conditions for which a great deal of physical therapy is required, adults may be eligible for reimbursement under the basic insurance after the 20th treatment.

The first 9 physiotherapy treatments in connection with urinary incontinence are reimbursed under the basic insurance. This is pelvic floor training by a trained physiotherapist. Check with the physiotherapist and / or health insurer whether the treatment is reimbursed by the physiotherapist concerned from the basic insurance.
Children and young people (up to 18 years)
For children and young people up to the age of 18, the basic rule for the calendar year 2012 is that the first 9 physiotherapy treatments are covered by the basic insurance, with the possibility of 9 additional treatments if the first 9 treatments do not yet have the desired result. If more treatments are required, then in principle they are not covered by the basic health insurance. However, for certain conditions, all treatments may be reimbursed.
Reimbursement for some chronic conditions stops
The so-called chronic list contains all conditions for which the treatment is reimbursed by the physiotherapist. This list is shortened. From 2012, the reimbursement for a number of treatments will no longer apply. On this list you will find an overview of the conditions that go off the list.

It is therefore possible that you need physiotherapy for a condition and that it is not reimbursed at all or only partially from the basic insurance. Your personal situation may also vary from year to year. We therefore recommend that you take out an appropriate additional insurance policy in which sufficient physiotherapy treatments are included. After all, it can easily happen that you unexpectedly have to appeal to the physiotherapist's help. For example in sports injuries or after an accident. But also if you have rheumatism, for example. The treatments for this condition are not reimbursed at all from the basic insurance.
Review your policy carefully
Be careful in your choice for a health insurer. There are big differences in the way in which health insurers reimburse physiotherapy in the supplementary insurance. Take a good look at your healthcare policy. If your current policy is inadequate, you can cancel your current health insurance before 1 January. If you have done this, you have until 1 February to apply for a new health insurance.
The insurers have an acceptance obligation for the basic insurance, but this does not apply to a supplementary insurance. You often have to fill in a medical certificate. Keep this in mind, as this can take extra time.
Own risk
With the basic insurance there is a compulsory deductible. This means that if you make healthcare costs (with the exception of GP care, midwifery and maternity care, free population screening and the flu shot for risk groups) covered by the basic insurance in the new year, you must first pay the excess amount yourself. After that, all costs are reimbursed under the policy conditions from the basic insurance. The deductible in combination with the fact that little physical therapy is reimbursed under the basic insurance policy poses a rather large financial risk. For this reason, we advise you to take good care of yourself.
The excess therefore does not apply to the costs of the supplementary insurance. In certain cases, insured parties can receive a sum of money to compensate the deductible. The Central Administration Office (CAK) automatically pays this amount to those who are entitled to it.
